A New Perspective

This bookmark weaves a tale so old, it stands on its own too, what a feat. Brushing light with a stroke of, whatcha call that, luck, flattening out the surface, polishing off and getting a dusting... this space invader is all airs when it comes to substance. Plenty to chew on, and another one for the road. Pack your coat.

We landed back in Wanaka last week to a new perspective. It's a beautiful place to chill.

We've wandered around galleries, shopping malls and streets full of artwork. From street art to ingenious design, we've been inspired here. 

Like a chip to the shoulder...

On our last night in Asia, I'm reflecting for a moment on what we've seen along the way...

We have seen old

And we've seen new

Seen a lot of people in our view

...

We'll take back home

An overall impression

Knowing that we'll never

Be the same

I get up from the couch

My ghost sits there till morning

What if I forget to sit down again?

There's a little place around the corner, it looks alright, its got good reviews. Shall we go there?

"Yep"... "how long to go"

We're inspired on this trip. South East Asias been just the ticket. There's so much to see here, it's overwhelming. And we take it all in. Trusting every driver along the way. A round trip. Here I go. K

The Station

I'm so hollow said the tree

Can you see my bark...

The Monk at the Station

Sitting in gold

2 men by his feet

Their stories are told

Awaiting their meal

The Monk takes it first

Hands over a portion

For quenching their thirst

They play with their feet

Heads bowed to the floor

From train station windows

I'll say what I saw

They're keen to tuck in

And quietly rifle

Through bag after bag

Of some kind of trifle

Thank you they say

Hands touch, heads are lifted

Monk taking pride

For what he has gifted

Faces light up

They're fed for the day

He takes them away

For prayers they must pay

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand

This dark brew has your name all over it, if you can handle its contents.  A bit hot, boiling over faster than a mud pool... Another handle'll be needed for the tilt.  So heady is this broth, it sinks another iceberg in Coffee Bay, triggering a tsunami siren from the trench. Desserted... 

Affa-gotta-go, Ice-creams melting. 

Shaken and Stirred

Like images of place and time

and moments caught in wonder

Stories from the moonlit shore

are amplified in thunder

Get your face into this boysenberry delight quick smart, before it lights up and pops it's own umbrella. One gentle glide around the arc will fuse time with space, leaving just enough room for thought. Undo your strap, this one's a belter, and twisting. Another challenge for the cork.

After the appetizer, a meaty surprise appears from a clean slate... with a small tree stuck out the side for gripping onto. Once you finish your flesh, licking clean the bones, and leaving the tree skeleton discarded... your tongue starts wagging... flicking around so quick it storms the cup, paying lip service to the waiter and ordering a tip. 

Now pops the main event... a full plate approaches from gravy station, surrounding months of built up muscle from the grass chewing machine. Sitting beside a mature rice paddy, every mouthful erupts on tongue, giving beef to throat with a slap, from the gummy bear monster. If you chews curry, it's good to share naan. Serve on a tray, with ladle.

And finally, we'll have the sticky rice and coconut milk from, where'd that manGo... over there... he's ordered a Grab and it's waiting outside. Quick, meters running, and it's hot. Might go for a swim after.

What would the critics say now...

- An elusive shadow... a huge wave will be needed to wake up the tide. 

- A big mess... the iron'll go on strike, causing fabric to shrink and eyes to pop.

- A colourful reaction.  Charting it's own course and giving no damn to whoever seas it's content.

At times of huge personal growth...

The Rolling Waves

We're in Thailand right now, staying on Phi Phi Island... and it's absolutely beautiful.  It's largely been rebuilt since the tsunami, especially in town, however it's still a very vulnerable place and we do see signs of damage around. But also a lot of resilience too. I'm more than a little inspired here...

This Pinot Noir will send your ancestors tongue down your throat and into your ribs like a God-dammed spear.  So good, your taste bud's left wondering who your right buds gone clubbing with. So meaty it sends a lion to soul food for carrots. So wavy it rolls it's own joint. So elegantly Phine. Swim on in... it's crashing on the corner of mouth and cheek. K

We actually thought this was still tsunami damage... the harbour has been munted all along the edge. Turns out this happened 2 weeks ago... big waves created by a monsoon knocked it all down again.  Work in progress I guess. The sea is powerful. Gotta feel for these people really.

Artwork is Brewing

 If paint was like coffee 

I'd always indulge

The stories of rainbows

The pot would divulge

Make mine with sugar

A double delight

Hold the cup steady

Or you'll get a flight

If brushes were chocolates

I'd give them away

All wrapped up in tissue

And ribbons that Sway

Make mine look pretty

A gift from a friend

There's plenty to share

Of our own special blend

If thoughts were like petals

That fell from the hand

They'd cover the canvas

Instead of the land

I'd soon grab another

There's no time to pause

Walking the sands of Thailand... over beaches swept clean by tsunami waves... I see a boat in a field. We are but a speck in this ever changing world.  There is no rush here, no judgements and no need. We proceed at our own pace. Magic.

A Whisper

Footprints softly land on grass

A tiptoe through the Vista

The blades of green are waiting still

To sing a gentle whisper

Sometimes a visit from the frost

Weighs down their jagged edges

There's always shelter from the side

From fluffy little hedges

Warmed from sunshine from the blue

Renewed in shades of lime

The price we pay for nature's way

It doesn't cost a dime

Skipping through the swaying lines

The whisper winds are flying

If dreams came out of catalogues

Which piece would you be buying?

The grass is soft, the air is light

The path awaits us all

Be kind to little blades of green

They stop us when we fall

It's a puzzling world this. I would love to go back to this time and give myself some advice. I painted this piece at the start of my exhibition journey. If I remember rightly, I had a song on repeat and I painted this upside down. It drew me in, a little deep for comfort. Not content with just keeping it for myself... I went to all the trouble to post it overseas. 

Floating through in pockets 

in the warm and humid night

Inbetween the echo 

of the laughter and the light

Dreaming of a place 

we're stepping out into the air

Flying through the fringes 

not a minute now to spare

Music serenading 

as the sun is going down

Running through the market 

on the busy side of town

And the advice... Don't give yourself away. They'll never fully respect you if you do. Generosity is a different thing, it's a choice. Inspiration is there, but there's only one person who can make your art, and that's you. Your unique, beautiful self.

In the Jeans...

This silhouette is so bold, it blows off its own steam, straight up... and away. So patchy is this profile, it shines holes into space and shoes into feet, while maintaining a clear mind at all times. 

Reflecting on this madness is an art in itself... somewhere between blue and into... 

off the kcuf and speeding aheadha into tomorrow. No thought of the consequences... we'll evas that for another yad.

At this junction of brilliance, lies an eternal bliss. Too silky for its own, too smooth for another... lighting up to hit fourth base.  Call home, and quickly. 

Inside the mirror hall, the room alights.  A concert of edibles rest on the stage. An invitation to go all in, bobbing for apples and singing 'Go save the cream' and dancing like watching. Know one too?

There, as the night progresses, calls go out for last drinks.  A head banging experience for the sound addicts, greedily devouring every chord.

Down. A head of its game. The trouble with that is... getting carried away. Leave, I? No chance, it's in the jeans. K
